Advanced Studies in Federal Securities Regulation: Policy and Practice
Professor John Olson J.D. Seminar 381 (cross-listed) | 3 credit hours This seminar course offers an opportunity for in depth discussion of key issues in securities regulation including current Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) regulatory and enforcement actions, how regulatory decisions are made, the economic and other policy bases for SEC and PCAOB regulation, and the operation and impact of the SEC’s regulatory oversight and enforcement programs in the recent financial crisis. Guest speaker participants will include members and senior staff from the SEC and PCAOB and experienced securities practitioners. Prerequisite: Corporations; Securities Regulation (may be taken concurrently). This course requires a paper. J.D. students must register for the 3 credit section of the course if they wish to write a paper fulfilling the J.D. Upperclass Legal Writing Requirement. The paper requirements of the 2 credit section will not fulfill the J.D. Upperclass Legal Writing Requirement.
