International Law I: Introduction to International Law
Professor Kevin Cope J.D. Course 235 | 3 credit hours This course provides an introduction to the key principles of public international law. Selected topics include sources of international law; the role of international law in the United States; international dispute resolution mechanisms; foreign sovereign immunity and related doctrines; allocation of legal authority among states; international human rights; use of force; and international criminal law. The course also explores briefly how the foreign affairs power is allocated between the U.S. branches of government. Finally, the course briefly introduces the legal traditions of Europe and Latin America from a comparative perspective.
